The Ferengi Energy Whip is a Rare Forbidden Tech built around a single job: mining. Its headline effect multiplies your Concentrated Latinum mining rate on the D’Vor Feesha, and later tiers stack on cargo capacity, general mining rate, and protected cargo. If you run a latinum operation, this piece pays for itself. If you don’t, most of its value stays locked behind a ship you aren’t flying.

What the Ferengi Energy Whip does

Everything about this artifact points at the refinery. The first buff activates the moment you unlock the item and applies only when you are mining Concentrated Latinum on the D’Vor Feesha, which is the one ship in the game built for that resource. The other three buffs unlock at later tiers and apply to your mining more broadly, so the piece gets more flexible the further you push it.

Buff Unlocks at tier Unlock value Max value
Concentrated Latinum mining rate on D’Vor Feesha 1 8,000% 56,000%
Cargo capacity 3 20% 200%
Mining rate 6 75% 1,200%
Protected cargo 8 50% 750%

Values are current as of the latest game data. Read them as a set rather than four separate numbers: the latinum multiplier decides how fast a node empties, cargo capacity decides how much you can hold before you have to fly home, and protected cargo decides how much survives if someone hits you mid-run. Together they cut the number of trips a full latinum cycle takes.

How to get the Ferengi Energy Whip

Unlocking any Forbidden Tech starts with fragments of the matching rarity. Because this is a Rare piece, you need Rare Forbidden Fragments, which you spend in the Forbidden Tech refinery. Fragments come from Q’s Trials and from special rewards, so the realistic path is steady participation rather than a single purchase.

You also need somewhere to put it. Forbidden Tech Fusion Rods unlock Forbidden Tech slots on your ships and are what you spend if you later want to pull a piece back off a ship. Fusion Rods come from the Forbidden Tech refinery and the store. Plan slot space before you start unlocking pieces, because an artifact you can’t equip does nothing for your mining rate.

Upgrading the Ferengi Energy Whip

Two separate tracks raise this item. Tiers use Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalysts, and each tier raises the level cap and can switch on another buff, which is how cargo capacity, mining rate, and protected cargo come online at tiers 3, 6, and 8. Levels use Forbidden Tech Protomatter and scale the values of whatever is already unlocked. Both tracks also consume Forbidden Tech Reactors, which are what you spend to attempt an upgrade at all.

Ebene Level cap Kosten
1 5 Starting tier, no cost
7 35 32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 4,200 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst
12 60 32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 4,900 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst

Reaching tier 12 costs 352 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 57,000 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst in total. Taking it from level 2 to level 60 costs another 1,856 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 475,975 Forbidden Tech Protomatter. Reactors come from Daily Goals and the store, which makes them the quiet bottleneck on both tracks. Probability Devices raise your chance on an upgrade attempt, so save them for the tier pushes you care most about.

Best ships and uses for the Ferengi Energy Whip

The D’Vor Feesha is the obvious home. Its whole purpose is Concentrated Latinum, and the tier 1 buff does nothing anywhere else, so equipping this piece on any other hull throws away the largest number on the card.

Once you are past tier 3, the picture widens slightly. Cargo capacity, mining rate, and protected cargo all apply to normal mining, so a player without a well-developed D’Vor Feesha still gets a working general mining artifact out of the later tiers. That is a fallback, not a plan. The efficient version of this item is a maxed Whip on a maxed latinum miner.

The Ferengi Energy Whip in Star Trek

The energy whip is the weapon the Ferengi carried in their first on-screen appearance, “The Last Outpost,” when a Ferengi party faced off against an away team from the Enterprise-D on Delphi Ardu IV. It looked like a short handled lash and fired a concussive discharge that knocked targets off their feet, which made it as much a display of aggression as a practical weapon. Later Ferengi appearances leaned toward energy pistols and the whip faded from view, but it stayed the signature Ferengi sidearm of the era. In Star Trek Fleet Command the game frames it as a banned weapon moved through a black market network by Ferengi arms dealers, which fits both the species and the Forbidden Tech system it belongs to.

Is the Ferengi Energy Whip worth it?

For anyone running latinum seriously, yes. A 56,000% Concentrated Latinum mining rate on the ship you already use for that resource is the kind of number that changes your refining schedule, not just your mining log. Players without a developed D’Vor Feesha should treat it as a lower priority Rare, unlock it when fragments are spare, and push tiers only far enough to pick up the general mining buffs.
