A Second Opinion is a story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where you ask Toryn to help analyze the mysterious objects from the Klingon research job. It is all travel plus one payment: you visit Toryn in Fastolf, buy a transistor from his contact in Gelvin for 16,000 Tritanium, and bring Toryn home. There is no fight. The mission starts at warp 1 and needs warp 15 to complete, and the game lists a recommended level of 1. The reward is 5,000 Dilithium.
A Second Opinion objectives
Five objectives with no choice split:
- Bring the object pieces to Toryn. Location: Fastolf.
- Meet with Toryn’s contact in Gelvin. Location: Gelvin.
- Pay 16,000 Tritanium for the transistor.
- Return to Toryn with the transistor. Location: Fastolf.
- Bring Toryn to your Station.
You deliver the object pieces to Toryn in Fastolf, then fly to Gelvin to meet his contact. The contact wants 16,000 Tritanium for a transistor, and paying it is an objective in its own right. You carry the transistor back to Toryn in Fastolf, and the last step brings Toryn to your station.
Wo und welcher Warp
The mission appears at warp 1 and needs warp 15 to complete. Fastolf and Gelvin are the two systems, and you visit Fastolf twice, so the route runs Fastolf, Gelvin, Fastolf, then home.
The recommended level is listed as 1. With no hostile to fight, warp 15 and 16,000 Tritanium are the only real requirements.
A Second Opinion rewards
| Belohnung | Amount |
|---|---|
| Dilithium | 5,000 |
Completing it unlocks the next mission, With Us or Against Us.
Is the trade worth it?
On paper, you spend 16,000 Tritanium and get back 5,000 Dilithium, so the mission is a resource swap rather than a pure gain. Whether that is a good deal depends on which resource you are short of. If Dilithium is holding up research or a building upgrade, the swap helps. If Tritanium is your bottleneck, it is worth waiting until you have a comfortable surplus before paying the contact.
The real value is progress. A Second Opinion is a link in the story chain, and it opens With Us or Against Us, which pays either Ressourcen or recruit tokens and Officer XP.
Where it sits in the story
The mission follows Für das Kaiserreich and leads into Mit uns oder gegen uns. Current game data for all three:
| Mission | Warp zum Abschließen | Fights | Belohnungen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Für das Kaiserreich | 13 | Suliban Explorer (12,905), Suliban Destroyer (16,758) | 3 Kerla shards, 43,000 Officer XP |
| Eine Zweitmeinung | 15 | None; pay 16,000 Tritanium | 5.000 Dilithium |
| Mit uns oder gegen uns | 13 | Research vessel (16,758), plus the agent (16,382) on one path | 41,000 Parsteel and 6,000 Tritanium, or 75 Premium Recruit Tokens and 55,000 Officer XP |
A Second Opinion has the highest warp of the three but the lightest workload, since it has no fight at all.
Tips
Have the 16,000 Tritanium ready before you set off. The payment is the third step, and without it the mission stalls in Gelvin.
Use any ship with the range. No combat means a survey ship or a spare hull is fine, which leaves your combat ship free for other work. More missions by level are on the Missionsleitfaden.
