The Shoulders of Giants is a short Borg story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command in which you investigate an inactive Borg probe. The game lists a recommended level of 1, it starts at warp 1, and it needs warp 18 to complete. Both objectives are in Benes-Delta, and there is no fight. The reward is 60,000 Tritanium, and it leads on to Geroutet. It is a quick two-step errand between two much busier Missionen.
The Shoulders of Giants objectives
The story line is to investigate an inactive Borg probe. There are two objectives and no choice split:
- Investigate the dead Borg probe. Location: Benes Delta.
- Scan the Borg probe. Location: Benes Delta.
Both steps are travel objectives in the same system. You reach the dead probe, then scan it, and the mission completes. Because the probe is inactive, no enemy is listed and there is no return trip.

No pickup system is listed. The mission starts at warp 1, and Benes Delta needs warp 18, which is the warp to complete. Benes Delta is the only system involved.
The recommended level shows as 1. Warp 18 is the only real requirement, since there is nothing to fight.
The Shoulders of Giants rewards
The mission pays 60,000 Tritanium. Completing it also unlocks the next mission, Routed.

The contrast is sharp. Unlikely Allies is a grind of hostiles and nanoprobe collection, and Routed throws three Borg fights at you in a row. The Shoulders of Giants is the breather in the middle, with no combat at all.
Tips
Send any ship that can reach Benes Delta. With no enemy on the probe, a survey or mining ship does the job and your combat ship can stay on other work.
Get your combat ship ready for what comes next. Routed starts with a return to your Station and then asks you to beat three enemies at roughly 296,000 to 305,000 strength, so repair and crew your best ship before you hand in this mission.
