The Quarry is a short Star Trek Fleet Command mining mission for the local Mining Guild: mine 100 Parsteel to clear the way for a new excavation laser. It is recommended for level 4 and needs warp 5 to start and to complete. The mission can be picked up in any of twelve systems, and the reward is one Grace Chen shard. It asks for very little, and an officer shard at level 4 is a good return.

The objective does not name a system, and there is no fight and no return trip. Once your ship has mined 100 Parsteel, the mission is complete.

The Quarry rewards
The reward is 1 Grace Chen shard. The Quarry does not unlock a follow-up mission in the current game Daten.
What the Grace Chen shard is for
Grace Chen is an uncommon Federation Wissenschaft officer, and the game data puts her first rank at 10 shards, so this mission covers a tenth of what you need to unlock her. As captain, her Modifications maneuver raises the ship’s Dodge, Shield Deflection and Armor by 20% against hostiles of level 51 and under. On the bridge, her Energy Absorber ability cuts the energy weapon damage those hostiles deal, starting at 10% at rank 1. Both abilities only apply against hostiles, so she is an officer for grinding rather than for fighting other players.
How it compares with other early mining missions
Several low-level Missionen ask you to mine a small amount of a resource. From the current game data:

The Quarry and Hard Shoulder ask for exactly the same work, 100 Parsteel, but The Quarry is the only one of these that pays an officer shard.
Tips
Use a mining or survey ship. There is no combat, so your combat ship is free for other work while a miner handles this.
Pick the nearest pickup system. Any of the twelve works, so there is no reason to travel further than you need to, as long as it sits within warp 5.
Run it close to Hard Shoulder. Both ask for 100 Parsteel, so a miner already set up for one is ready for the other.
