Burning Like the Cold is a Star Trek Fleet Command mission in which the Romulans have found a way to disable the Klingon Defense Grid. It lists a recommended level of 1, starts at warp 1 and needs warp 33 to finish. After meeting Operative Menra, you decide whether to help the Tal Shiar sabotage the Klingons or warn them instead. Both paths pay 250,000 Parsteel. Sabotage adds 50 3★ Uncommon Refined Gas, and warning the Klingons adds 50 3★ Uncommon Refined Crystal.

The mission opens with a shared meeting and then the choice:
- Meet with Operative Menra on Diseh. Location: Oppidum Frumenti.
- Decide to help the Tal Shiar sabotage the Klingons or refuse. The split asks whether you will help the Romulan Star Empire against the Klingons.
Path 1: sabotage
- Travel to Khitomer and disable the Klingon Defense Grid. Location: Khitomer.
- Defeat 8 Hostiles of Level 29 or higher.
Rewards for Path 1: 250,000 Parsteel and 50 3★ Uncommon Refined Gas.
Klingon path: warn the Klingons
- Travel to Rura Penthe and warn the Klingons. Location: Beta Penthe.
- Defeat the Romulan Command Ship. Location: Khitomer. Enemy strength is roughly 153,150.
Rewards for the Klingon path: 250,000 Parsteel and 50 3★ Uncommon Refined Crystal.
The two paths ask for different kinds of combat. Sabotage means eight hostiles of level 29 or higher after you reach Khitomer. Warning the Klingons means a single named fight against the Romulan Command Ship, also in Khitomer.
Where and what warp
Warp is 1 to start and 33 to complete. The meeting with Operative Menra is in Oppidum Frumenti, and Khitomer appears on both paths. The Klingon path also takes you to Beta Penthe first to warn the Klingons at Rura Penthe. Warp 33 covers every system on both paths.
The listed recommended level is 1. The level 29 floor on the hostiles and the 153,150-strength command ship are a better guide to when you are ready.

Either path unlocks the next part of the chain.
The Parsteel is the same on both sides, so the only reward difference is gas or crystal. Neither path lists any faction points.
Tips
Choose by the refined resource you need. Gas on Path 1 and crystal on the Klingon path are the only reward difference.
Then choose by the kind of fight you prefer. Path 1 is a grind of eight level 29+ hostiles with no named boss. The Klingon path is one fight at about 153,150 strength. If your ship can win that fight, it avoids the eight-kill grind.
Bring a combat ship either way. Both paths include combat after the choice, so there is no fight-free option.
