Mission Beneath the Surface

Beneath the Surface is a Star Trek Fleet Command mission that sends you after Scotty, whose trail runs to the Talora system. It has four objectives, but the combat sits squarely in mid-game territory: you clear ten high-level hostiles and then take down a Syndicate target worth more than eight million in strength. Finish it and you collect a batch of Uncommon Battleship parts, repair speedups, and a Pattern Disruptor, plus the next mission in the storyline opens up.

Beneath the Surface objectives

There are four steps, and they run in order:

  • Travel to Scotty’s last known location in the Talora system.
  • Defeat 10 hostiles of level 48 or higher.
  • Defeat a Syndicate member in Talora (enemy strength around 8,452,336).
  • Return to your station.

The second objective sets the pace. The game wants ten kills against hostiles at level 48 or above, so this is not a mission you finish at low level even if it shows up early in your log. Only the search step and the Syndicate fight are tied to Talora; the ten kills carry no fixed system, so you can clear them against any level 48-plus hostiles you already farm and save the Talora trip for the parts that need it.

Where and what warp

You pick the mission up at warp 1, close to your home space, but it sends you out to warp 160 before you can complete it. That gap is the part worth planning around, because the long leg is where most players lose time. Talora is the hub for the whole mission: it holds both Scotty’s last known location and the Syndicate member you have to beat, so once you are there you can handle the search and the fight in the same trip.

Beneath the Surface rewards

Completing the mission gives:

  • 130 Uncommon (4-star) Battleship parts
  • 25 one-hour repair speedups
  • 1 Pattern Disruptor

It also unlocks the next mission in the same storyline, so treat the reward list above as the loot and the unlock as progression rather than a second prize.

Tips

Bring a ship and crew that can reliably beat level 48-plus hostiles, since that objective gates everything after it. The Syndicate member in Talora hits around 8.4 million strength, so check your ship power against that number before you engage instead of warping in blind. The repair speedups you earn are handy for recovering between the ten hostile kills and the Syndicate fight, but you may want a stockpile of your own on hand if your ship takes heavy damage in either step.

Because the finish line sits at warp 160, top off your fuel before you leave and, if you can, move your operations or a fleet closer to Talora so you are not making the full long run more than once. Since the ten hostile kills have no set location, the tidy order is to clear those wherever it suits you, then make a single run out to Talora for the search step and the Syndicate fight before heading back to your station. That keeps the long warp to one round trip instead of several.
