Birds of a Feather is a Star Trek Fleet Command story mission where you capture and interrogate a Romulan spy. It starts at warp 1, needs warp 90 to complete, and begins with the dockmaster in Beta Niobe. Halfway through you choose how to get the information: fight a dock guard of roughly 1,969,977 strength, or pay 875,000 Dilithium. The fight path pays Tritanium and Interceptor Parts, the payment path pays refined crystal. Pick by what you need.
Birds of a Feather objectives
The first three objectives are the same for everyone:
- Speak with the dockmaster. Location: Beta Niobe.
- Follow the warp trail. Location: New Berlin.
- Decide how to get the information.
At the third step the mission splits into two paths. Both end the same way, by finding the spy in Hannlaw and taking them to New Vulcan, but the way in and the rewards differ.
Path 1: fight the dock guard
- Defeat the dock guard. Location: Hannlaw. Enemy strength is roughly 1,969,977.
- Find the Romulan spy. Location: Hannlaw.
- Bring the spy to New Vulcan. Location: New Vulcan.
Path 2: pay for the information
- Donate 875,000 Dilithium for the information.
- Find the Romulan spy. Location: Hannlaw.
- Bring the spy to New Vulcan. Location: New Vulcan.
The only difference in the tasks is the first step after the choice. Path 1 swaps a fight in Hannlaw for the Dilithium donation in Path 2. The last two steps are identical.
Where and what warp
The mission can be picked up at warp 1 and needs warp 90 to complete. It moves through four systems in total: Beta Niobe, New Berlin, Hannlaw and New Vulcan. The game lists a recommended level of 1, so plan around the warp 90 requirement and, if you take Path 1, the dock guard’s strength.

Which path to choose
The two paths trade different costs for different rewards, so the right answer depends on your ship and your stockpile.
Path 1 costs nothing but a fight. If your combat ship can beat a target near 1,969,977 strength, you keep your Dilithium and walk away with 5,130,000 Tritanium and 500 4★ Common Interceptor Parts. The Interceptor Parts only matter if you are working on an interceptor, so check that before you count them as a win.
Path 2 costs 875,000 Dilithium and skips the fight entirely. In return you get refined crystal: 90 4★ Uncommon and 800 4★ Common. If refined crystal is what is holding back your research or buildings, this is the more direct route to it, and it is also the safer path if the dock guard is out of your reach.
Tips
Decide before you reach the split. The choice comes right after New Berlin, so know whether you have 875,000 Dilithium to spare or a ship ready for the dock guard before you get there.
