The Mantis is a grade 4 Rare Battleship with an Independent allegiance, and it exists for one job: hunting Actian hostiles. Its passive ability multiplies the ship’s damage against the Actian Brood by a huge margin, so outside that fight it works as a specialist rather than an all-rounder. You unlock the build at Shipyard level 33. If you are working through the Actian arc, the Mantis is close to mandatory; if you are not, it can sit on the shelf.

Star Trek Fleet Command Mantis Battleship

How to get the Mantis

Building the Mantis needs 100 blueprints and a Shipyard at level 33. The build cost is 13,381,000 Tritanium, 1,165 3★ Common Refined Crystal, 1,820 3★ Common Refined Ore, and 75,000 Dilithium, and construction takes 34 days and 12 hours. The Mantis cannot be scrapped, so it stays in your roster instead of feeding parts into a later hull.

Mantis ability

The Mantis ship ability is Actian Corrupter, and it is always active. It raises the ship’s damage against Actian hostiles by 62,000% at ship level 1, scaling up to 650,000% at level 60. Against anything that is not an Actian target the bonus does nothing, which is why the whole ship is built around a single enemy type. In play this means the Mantis punches far above its raw stats inside Actian systems and behaves like an ordinary grade 4 battleship everywhere else.

Mantis active ability

The Mantis also carries two player-triggered abilities that run on a cooldown, separate from the always-on Actian Corrupter.

Venomous Puncture is a one-minute debuff you fire at an enemy player ship. For its duration the target takes -50% critical chance, -50% critical damage, and -40% shots per round, has its weapon fire delayed by one round, and cannot warp away. Pinning a ship in place while stripping its damage output is the reason the Mantis turns up in PvP.

Ship Cloaking hides the Mantis until the cloak’s duration expires or you enter combat, start mining, or dock at a station. Cloaking is not available by default; you unlock it with the Mantis Cloaking refit covered below.

Stats and tiers

These are base values from the current game data. Research, buffs, and officers raise them in play. The game shows Health as the average of shield and hull HP.

Tier Warp (speed / range) Impulse Cargo (protected) Shield HP Hull HP Health (displayed)
Tier 1 4.1 / 48 85 11,000 (600) 46,272 53,815 50,043.5
Tier 6 4.6 / 85 85 17,000 (1,370) 104,000 120,953 112,476.5
Tier 12 5.2 / 160 85 88,000 (6,250) 213,562 248,375 230,968.5

Weapons and firing pattern

Warm-up is the round a weapon first fires; cool-down is the number of rounds between shots after that. The values below are at max tier 12. Weapon 1 is the kinetic main gun that does the heavy lifting.

Weapon Type Shots Warm-up Cool-down Damage Crit chance Crit damage
Weapon 1 Kinetic 2 3 3 79,280–95,135 10% 150%
Weapon 2 Energy 1 1 3 15,856–19,027 10% 150%
Weapon 3 Energy 1 2 3 15,856–19,027 10% 150%

Mantis refits

The Mantis has two refits, each unlocked with ship shards.

Refit What it does
Apocrita Refit Improves Refinery Payout for Synthetic Ion and Hull Fragments by 30%. Unlock cost 120 shards.
Mantis Cloaking Enables cloaking for the Mantis and increases its base weapon damage by 350%. Unlock cost 80 shards.

Hunting Actian hostiles with the Mantis

The Mantis runs on Actian Venom, which you collect by destroying Actian hostiles, the Actian Chrysalis and Actian Apex, in the neutral Actian systems. Those systems span a wide warp range, from about warp 45 up to warp 145, so the ship keeps pace as you push deeper into the arc. Getting to the Actian systems takes Ancient Beacons, which you pick up daily from the Mantis section of the refinery. Research lines such as Mantis Weaponry, Mantis Hull Plating, and Mantis Cargo raise the ship’s performance further against those targets.

Crew for the Mantis

The Mantis is a Battleship, so a bridge built around weapon damage and armor piercing fits its profile, with one caveat: most of its killing power against Actian hostiles comes from the Actian Corrupter bonus, not from officers. For the Venomous Puncture role in PvP, officers that strengthen your opening burst matter more than sustained damage, since the goal is to land the debuff and lock the target down. Crews shift with the meta, so check the officer tier list for current picks.

The Mantis in Star Trek

The Mantis has no Star Trek screen history. It is a game-original design created for the Actian storyline, built by the galaxy’s engineers as a purpose-made answer to the Actian Brood, an enemy said to feed on fear. Its whole identity comes from that weapon-of-necessity idea: a ship the threat itself would fear. Treat its lore as STFC’s own rather than something drawn from the shows or films.

Is the Mantis worth it?

For its grade band the Mantis is a specialist. If you are running the Actian arc, its damage bonus turns targets that would otherwise grind into quick kills, and the Venomous Puncture debuff earns it a niche in PvP. Outside those two jobs it is an ordinary grade 4 battleship, and because it cannot be scrapped it is not a parts feeder either. Chase it if Actian content is on your plate; otherwise it is optional.
