Mission The Investigation

The Investigation is a Romulan story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where you help interrogate the suspects in a murder and name the killer. It auto-starts, takes place entirely in the Veisa system at warp 120, and involves no combat. Finishing it pays 600 Ultra Recruit Tokens, 700 Romulan Credits, and a large block of Romulan Points, at the cost of your Federation and Klingon standing. Worth running for the tokens if you are already working the Romulan arc.

The mission picks up the Romulan storyline after Hunted. Your job is to question a victim’s family, weigh what the son and the wife tell you, and decide who is responsible. It is short and dialogue-driven, so the interest is in the choice at the end rather than any tough objective.

The Investigation objectives

Every step happens in Veisa, so once you are there you can clear the whole mission without moving on. The objectives, in order:

  • Travel to Veisa with the Investigator.
  • Speak with the son, on the planet Mana’Ri in Veisa.
  • Speak with the wife, on the planet Mitski in Veisa.
  • Return your ship to your station.
  • Decide who the killer is. This is a choice split: name the son or name the wife.
  • Return to the Investigator in Veisa.

The choice is where the mission branches. Both answers send you back to the Investigator and pay the same reward, so neither option is better for loot. What changes is the follow-up mission that opens next (see Tips).

Where and what warp

The Investigation auto-starts, so it lands in your active missions without a pickup step. Everything is in the Veisa system, and the warp to reach it is 120, which is the number to plan your travel around. Because it is a travel-and-talk mission with no enemies to fight, ship power does not matter here; you only need enough warp range to get to Veisa.

The Investigation rewards

Both choices give the same payout on completion:

  • 600 Ultra Recruit Token
  • 700 Romulan Credits
  • 645,000 Romulan Points

Completing it also lowers your Federation Points by 727,560 and your Klingon Points by 485,000, since siding with the Romulan investigator costs you standing with those two factions. Finishing The Investigation unlocks the next mission in the Romulan chain; which one you get depends on your choice.

Tips

There is no fight in this mission, so bring whatever ship has the warp range for Veisa and skip the crew planning. Your answer to “who is the killer” does not change the rewards, but it does set your next mission: naming the son leads into Wrong for the Right Reasons, and naming the wife leads into Right for the Wrong Reasons. Both continue the same story, so pick the follow-up you would rather run. One thing to weigh before you commit: the mission drains a big chunk of Federation and Klingon reputation, so if you are grinding standing with either faction, run this when that hit will not set you back. Since every objective sits in Veisa, park near the system before you start and you can clear the whole thing in one short session.
