The Rotarran is a grade 5 Epic Klingon Interceptor that unlocks at Shipyard level 60. It plays as a critical-hit kinetic striker: its Bird of Prey ability keeps adding critical hit damage while an enemy carries a Hull Breach, and a refit lets it cloak. If you run Klingon combat crews and can commit to a long build, it rewards a setup built around landing and stacking critical hits.
How to get the Rotarran
The Rotarran is a built ship rather than a reward you collect in one piece. You need 650 blueprints and a Shipyard at level 60 before construction can begin. The build cost is 2,455,200,000,000 Tritanium, 59,400,000,000 Dilithium, 1,782 5★ Common Refined Gas, and 5,037 5★ Common Refined Crystal, and the build runs for 250 days. Where the blueprints show up shifts over time, so check what the game is currently offering rather than planning around a single fixed source.
Rotarran ability
The Rotarran’s ship ability is Bird of Prey, and like all ship abilities it is always on. As long as the target has a Hull Breach, every critical hit the Rotarran lands with a weapon attack raises its Critical Hit Damage, and that increase stacks as the fight continues. The step is +0.1 at ship level 1 and grows to +0.2 at level 60. The ship wants an enemy that is already breached, then it snowballs its own crit damage the longer the battle runs, which fits its high-count kinetic weapons.
Rotarran active abilities
The Rotarran also carries player-triggered abilities that you unlock through refits. Ship Cloaking hides the vessel until the cloak’s duration ends or you enter combat, start mining, or dock at a station. Lethal Force increases Critical Hit Damage against players by 125%, which sharpens the Bird of Prey crit engine for PvP. Field Repairs, used out of combat while undocked, instantly restores 25% of the ship’s hull HP. Each has its own activation and cooldown, so you trigger whichever the situation calls for.
Stats and tiers
Base values below come from the current game data; research, buffs, and officers raise them in play.
| Tier | Warp (speed / range) | Impulse | Cargo (protected) | Shield HP | Hull HP | Health (displayed) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4.9 / 585 | 105 | 235,000 (15,000) | 4,161,257 | 4,697,806 | 4,429,531 |
| 6 | 5.4 / 900 | 105 | 235,000 (15,000) | 6,254,255 | 7,060,676 | 6,657,465 |
| 12 | 6 / 1,025 | 105 | 235,000 (15,000) | 10,051,869 | 11,347,951 | 10,699,910 |
Weapons and firing pattern
Warm-up is the round a weapon first fires; cool-down is how many rounds pass between shots after that. All four weapons are kinetic, so the Bird of Prey crit bonus rides on every gun the Rotarran carries. Values are at max tier 12.
| Weapon | Type | Shots | Warm-up | Cool-down | Damage | Crit chance | Crit damage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weapon 1 | Kinetic | 2 | 1 | 1 | 269,928–350,987 | 10% | 150% |
| Weapon 2 | Kinetic | 2 | 1 | 1 | 269,928–350,987 | 10% | 150% |
| Weapon 3 | Kinetic | 5 | 2 | 3 | 480,612–528,659 | 10% | 150% |
| Weapon 4 | Kinetic | 5 | 3 | 3 | 480,612–528,659 | 10% | 150% |
Crew slots and officer bonus
The Rotarran opens officer slots as it levels up.
| Ship level | Officer slots |
|---|---|
| 5 | 1 |
| 10 | 2 |
| 20 | 3 |
| 30 | 4 |
| 40 | 5 |
| 45 | 6 |
| 55 | 7 |
The ship also boosts the officers you seat on it, stepping up a bonus ladder as it progresses. On the Rotarran the attack, defense, and health bonuses are identical at each step, so one column covers all three.
| Amount | Bonus (attack / defense / health) |
|---|---|
| 2,200 | 65% |
| 4,400 | 130% |
| 7,150 | 195% |
| 9,900 | 260% |
| 13,200 | 325% |
| 17,600 | 390% |
| 24,200 | 455% |
| 33,000 | 520% |
| 44,000 | 585% |
| 66,000 | 650% |
Rotarran refits
Refits unlock the Rotarran’s extra abilities and a skin, and each costs ship shards.
| Refit | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rotarran Cloaking | Enables cloaking for the Rotarran and increases base weapon damage by +500%. Costs 120 shards. |
| Rotarran Lethal Force | Unlocks the Lethal Force ability. Requires a level 60 Armory and 120 shards. |
| Field Repairs (Rotarran) | Unlocks Field Repairs, which restores 25% of the ship’s hull HP out of combat while undocked. Costs 120 shards. |
| Hijacked TOS Rotarran | Unlocks the Hijacked skin refit for the Rotarran. Costs 80 shards. |
Crew for the Rotarran
Build the bridge around the Bird of Prey ability. Because the bonus grows only while the enemy has a Hull Breach and pays off through critical hits, the ship wants officers that create or exploit Hull Breach and officers that lift critical hit chance or critical hit damage. A captain who rewards or triggers crits, backed by two officers that support crit output or apply the breach, gets the snowball started earlier. Crews shift with the meta, so check the Officer Tier List for the current best picks before you commit officers to this hull.
The Rotarran in Star Trek
The IKS Rotarran was a Klingon Bird-of-Prey in service with the Klingon Defense Force in the late 24th century. It became General Martok’s flagship during the Dominion War and figured into several Deep Space Nine stories. Early in that run the crew believed the ship was cursed and that everyone aboard carried dishonor, after a string of unlucky encounters. That changed when the High Council commended the crew for rescuing 35 Klingon warriors from Cardassian space, a turn that restored the ship’s standing and Martok’s own.
Is the Rotarran worth it?
For a grade 5 combat ship, the Rotarran is a strong pick if you enjoy critical-hit play and can crew it to keep enemies breached. The cloaking and Lethal Force refits give it real PvP teeth, and its kinetic weapons feed the Bird of Prey bonus. The catch is the entry bar: a level 60 Shipyard, 650 blueprints, and a 250-day build. Chase it if you want a dedicated Klingon crit striker, not as a casual filler ship.
