Friend of the Federation is a single Federation mission in Star Trek Fleet Command, picked up in Vulcan with a recommended level of 1. It needs warp 17 both to start and to complete. The Vulcans want to know whether they can trust you, so you repair an outpost, track down a terrorist named Marka and defeat his ship at roughly 36,701 strength. The reward is 20 3★ Uncommon Refined Gas and a Cargo Container, a fair return for a short run.
Friend of the Federation objectives
There are four objectives across two systems, plus a donation, and no choice split:
- Go to the damaged Federation outpost on Maxom. Location: Freyda.
- Donate 2,000 Dilithium for the outpost’s repairs.
- Follow the signature to Marka’s position and arrest him. Location: Ora Leraa.
- Defeat Marka. Location: Ora Leraa. Enemy strength is roughly 36,701.
The first half is travel and a donation. Maxom is the planet, Freyda is the system you fly to, and the 2,000 Dilithium is paid from your stock once you arrive. The second half moves to Ora Leraa, where the arrest attempt turns into the one fight in the mission. Marka’s ship at around 36,701 is the only combat check.
The donation is 2,000 Dilithium, which keeps the repair step cheap.
Where and what warp
You accept the mission in Vulcan, and both the start and the finish are listed at warp 17. The action happens in Freyda and Ora Leraa, so the route is Vulcan, then Freyda, then Ora Leraa. The recommended level in the data is 1, but the warp 17 requirement and a 36,701-strength fight are the practical gates.
Because the mission ends in Ora Leraa with Marka’s defeat, there is no final trip back to your station written into the objectives.

Friend of the Federation and Fallen Idols compared
Two related missions are Fallen Idols and Heritage Site. Fallen Idols is also picked up in Vulcan, so the two make a natural pair to run together.

Fallen Idols has the tougher fight and pays Parsteel; Friend of the Federation has the lighter fight and pays refined gas.
Tips
Have 2,000 Dilithium on hand before you leave Vulcan. The donation sits between the two travel steps, and running short would stall the mission in Freyda.
Send a combat ship. Two of the four objectives are travel, but Defeat Marka is a real fight, and a mining or survey hull is the wrong choice for a target near 36,701 strength.
