Precursor is the Borg arc mission where the factions stop circling each other and hit the hive in Torana directly. You join the rally in Fastolf, pick which faction task force to lead, then fight your way through an assimilated warship, a Borg Probe, and a Borg Cube. Warp 22 gets you there and back. Your choice of task force decides the rewards, not the difficulty.

Precursor objectives

The first two objectives are the same for everyone. The second one is the choice split, and everything after it depends on which faction you sided with.

  • Join the faction forces at the rallying point in Fastolf.
  • Choose which faction task force to lead into battle.

Federation task force

  • Lead the Federation task force to Torana.
  • Defeat the Assimilated Federation Ship in Torana, the Assimilated Kelvin, at roughly 431,670 strength.
  • Defeat the Borg Probe in Torana, the Borg Assailant, at roughly 347,055 strength.
  • Engage the Borg Cube in Torana, the Impaired Borg Cube, at roughly 527,149 strength.
  • Return to your station.

Romulan task force

  • Lead the Romulan task force to Torana.
  • Defeat the Assimilated Romulan Ship in Torana, the Assimilated Valdore, at roughly 418,676 strength.
  • Defeat the Borg Probe in Torana, at roughly 356,340 strength.
  • Engage the Borg Cube in Torana, at roughly 527,149 strength.
  • Return to your station.

Klingon task force

  • Lead the Klingon task force to Torana.
  • Defeat the Assimilated Klingon Ship in Torana, at roughly 415,226 strength.
  • Defeat the Borg Probe in Torana, at roughly 347,055 strength.
  • Engage the Borg Cube in Torana, at roughly 527,149 strength.
  • Return to your station.

All three paths run the same shape: one assimilated warship of your chosen faction, one Probe, then the Cube. The assimilated warship is the only target that changes between paths, and the strength gap between the three versions is under 17,000, so no path is meaningfully easier.

Where and what warp

The mission opens in Fastolf, a level 21 system, where the task forces gather. Every fight happens in Torana, a level 27 system, and that is the leg that sets the requirement: warp 22 to complete. You can pick the mission up from anywhere, but you cannot finish it until your ship reaches warp 22.

Because all four combat objectives sit in the same system, you only make the trip once. Repair between fights in Torana rather than warping home, or you will pay the warp cost again.

Precursor rewards

The reward package is identical in structure across the three paths and differs only in which faction it pays out for.

Task force Refined resource Faction credits Ship parts
Federation 20 x 3★ Uncommon Refined Gas 230 Federation Credits 360 x 3★ Interceptor Parts
Romulan 20 x 3★ Uncommon Refined Ore 230 Romulan Credits 360 x 3★ Explorer Parts
Klingon 20 x 3★ Uncommon Refined Crystal 230 Klingon Credits 360 x 3★ Battleship Parts

Precursor also moves the Borg arc forward. It follows No Fighting in the War Room and opens The Parent of Fear.

Tips

Pick the task force by what you are short on, since the fights are close enough that difficulty is not the deciding factor. Interceptor parts and Federation Credits come from the Federation path, Explorer parts and Romulan Credits from the Romulan path, Battleship parts and Klingon Credits from the Klingon path. If you are grinding a faction store or a specific hull tier, that is your answer.

Plan your ship around the Cube, not the first fight. At roughly 527,149 strength it carries about 100,000 more than the assimilated warship you open with, so a crew that barely survives objective three will not carry you through objective five.

Warp 22 is the gate players hit most often here. If your ship falls short, the mission sits in your log until you finish the warp research or bring a hull that reaches Torana.
