A Friendly Conversation

A Friendly Conversation is a story mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where you take a Tholian hostage in the Nott system. It is recommended for level 25, starts at warp 1 and needs warp 20 to complete. You disable a Tholian ship at roughly 74,100 power, beam the Tholian aboard, then decide whether to let them go. Letting them go pays Dilithium and speed ups; refusing means a second fight and pays Parsteel, 240 3★ Battleship Parts and two 1 Day Speed Ups.

A Friendly Conversation objectives

The first four steps are shared, all in Nott:

  • Isolate the Tholian ship. Location: Nott.
  • Disable the Tholian ship. Location: Nott. Enemy strength is roughly 74,100.
  • Beam the Tholian on board. Location: Nott.
  • Let the Tholian go?

The answer splits the mission into two paths.

Yes, let the Tholian go

  • Return to your Station.

No, keep the Tholian

  • Destroy the ship. Location: Nott. Enemy strength is roughly 74,100.
  • Return to your station.

Saying yes ends the mission with a trip home. Saying no sends you back into a second fight at the same strength before you can return.

Where and what warp

All the action happens in Nott. The mission appears at warp 1, but reaching Nott and finishing takes warp 20.

The recommended level is 25. The Tholian ship at about 74,100 power is well within reach of a properly crewed combat ship at that level; on the no path you need to beat it twice.

A Friendly Conversation rewards

Reward Yes (let go) No (destroy)
Dilithium 8,000 None
3 Hour Speed Up 9 None
Parsteel None 469,000
3★ Battleship Parts None 240
1 Day Speed Up None 2

Neither path pays reputation points or officer shards, so the choice is purely about resources and speed ups.

Which choice to pick

The yes path is faster: no second fight, and nine 3 Hour Speed Ups add up to 27 hours of speed up time, plus 8,000 Dilithium.

The no path costs one more fight and pays more. Two 1 Day Speed Ups are 48 hours of speed up time, and you also get 469,000 Parsteel and 240 3★ Battleship Parts. If you are working on a battleship, or your station needs Parsteel, the extra fight is worth it.

For most players the no path is the better return, since the second fight is the same strength as the first.

How it fits the storyline

Mission Warp to complete Tholian fights Headline rewards
A Dent in the Armor 20 One, about 73,260 40,000 Tritanium, 10 15 Minute Repair Speed Ups
A Friendly Conversation 20 One or two, about 74,100 Depends on your choice
Hanging by a Thread 20 One, about 73,260 600 Ultra Recruit Tokens, 111,000 Tritanium

All three missions are recommended for level 25 and need warp 20, and every fight lands near 74,000. Diverging Paths is another level 25 mission set in Nott.

Tips

Repair after the first fight if you plan to refuse. The second Tholian ship is just as strong, and you face it right after the choice.
