A Suffering Game is a Discovery storyline mission in Star Trek Fleet Command where you discover the truth behind Mudd’s motivations. It comes in four versions, recommended for levels 3, 12, 27 and 40, each with the same four objectives: find a Romulan lab, defeat a Romulan agent and a Centurion, then escape to a safe distance. The level 3 version runs at warp 1 and pays 15 1★ Explorer Parts and 130 Parsteel. The level 40 version needs warp 70 and pays 24,752,000 Parsteel.
A Suffering Game objectives
Every version follows the same order with no choice split. At level 3 no system is named:
- Find the Romulan lab.
- Defeat the Romulan agent. Enemy strength is about 221.
- Defeat the Centurion. Enemy strength is about 272.
- Escape to a safe distance.
The lab is the lead on what Harry Mudd is really after. Two Romulan fights guard it, and once both are down you leave the area. In the higher versions the escape step takes you to a different system from the lab, so the mission ends with one more jump.
Where and what warp
The level 3 version starts and finishes at warp 1. The Romulan agent and the Centurion are listed at about 221 and 272 strength, so a starting ship can handle both.
The other versions move the lab and the escape point further out. Level 12 needs warp 11, level 27 needs warp 19 and level 40 needs warp 70. The table in the next section has the systems for each.
A Suffering Game rewards
At level 3 the reward is 15 1★ Explorer Parts and 130 Parsteel. Completing the mission unlocks the next one, Strongarm Tactics.
A Suffering Game at other levels
The same four objectives appear in each version. What changes is where the lab is, how strong the two Romulans are and what you earn. At level 12 the lab is in Elona and you escape to Rigel. At level 27 it is in Vendus A, with the escape to Cita Laga. At level 40 the lab is in Umxheli and the escape is to Sileo.
| Recommended level | Systems | Warp to complete | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | None named | 1 | 15 1★ Explorer Parts, 130 Parsteel |
| 12 | Elona, Rigel | 11 | 6,000 Parsteel, 3 15 Minute Repair Speed Ups |
| 27 | Vendus A, Cita Laga | 19 | 1,019,000 Parsteel, 150,000 Tritanium |
| 40 | Umxheli, Sileo | 70 | 24,752,000 Parsteel, 4 1 Day Speed Ups |
The enemy strengths scale with the level:
| Recommended level | Romulan agent | Centurion |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | about 221 | about 272 |
| 12 | about 3,877 | about 3,760 |
| 27 | about 133,020 | about 131,625 |
| 40 | about 1,426,536 | about 4,339,888 |
In the level 40 version the Centurion is about three times as strong as the agent, so the second fight is the one to plan around. In the lower versions the two fights are close in strength.
Tips
Repair between the two fights in the level 40 version. Going into a 4.3 million strength Centurion with damage from the agent fight is the fastest way to lose the ship.
Plan the route before you start at level 40. Warp 70 is a long trip, and the escape step adds a second system after the lab.
The level 27 version is a strong payout for its level, with over a million Parsteel and 150,000 Tritanium for two fights near 133,000 strength.
The mission before this one is The Devil You Know. The rest of the story is on the Discovery arc page.
