His value sits in one idea: he makes your weapons hit harder and land more reliably against anything that is not another player.

He belongs to the Föderationsfraktion and sits in the same TNG group as the rest of the Enterprise-D bridge. If you grind hostiles for loot, clear mission combat, or run armadas, Data earns a seat quickly.

This guide covers his two abilities, his character traits and what they cost, how his shard and promotion costs scale, and which Offiziere pair with him.

Star Trek background

Lieutenant Commander Data is a Soong-type android, the first of his kind to serve in Starfleet. Doctor Noonien Soong built him in the 2330s and gave him a positronic brain, which makes him far stronger and faster than a human and able to process information at a speed no organic crew member can match.

Across Star Trek: The Next Generation, Data works as second officer and chief Operationen officer aboard the USS Enterprise-D under Captain Picard. Much of his story follows his wish to understand humanity. He studies emotion, paints, plays the violin, and even builds an android daughter, Lal. His rights as a sentient being drive one of the show’s best-known episodes, “The Measure of a Man.” He later gives his life to save the Enterprise-E crew in Star Trek Nemesis.

That history is why STFC files him under Science. He is the analyst and problem-solver of the crew, and the game leans on his precision rather than brute aggression.

Role in STFC

Data is a player-versus-environment combat officer. Everything useful he does aims at non-player targets, which in STFC means hostiles, armada targets, and mission combat enemies. Against another player’s ship his abilities do nothing, so treat him as a farming and grinding officer, not a PvP pick.

His officer ability boosts your ship’s piercing and accuracy, and his captain ability raises critical hit chance against the same target types. Together they push more of your damage through enemy defenses and make your shots land, which shortens hostile and armada fights. For a mid-game player working through faction grinds or a daily hostile route, that adds up to faster clears and less repair downtime.

Data’s abilities

Officer ability: Effort Yields Its Own Rewards

When Data sits on the bridge and you fight non-player targets, including mission hostiles, he increases your Armor Piercing, Shield Piercing, and Accuracy. The bonus grows each time you promote him, and it gets large at higher ranks. Two independent sources report the same progression, so here are the per-rank values, current as of the latest game data:

Rang

Piercing and accuracy bonus

1

60%

2

120%

3

180%

4

240%

5

300%

Higher piercing means more of your weapon damage gets past enemy armor and shields, and higher accuracy means fewer wasted shots. That combination is what makes Data a strong officer-slot pick on hostile-hunting and armada ships.

Captain ability: Positronic Precision

With Data in the captain’s chair, your ship lands more critical hits against Hostiles and Armadas. The bonus to critical hit chance is 17% as of the latest data. More crits means more burst damage, which works well with his piercing buff when he rides the bridge of a strong combat ship.

One note on placement: both his captain ability and his officer ability target hostiles and armadas, so he pulls weight in either seat depending on what the rest of your crew needs.

Where Data shines

Data fits any crew built around killing non-player targets. A few concrete spots where he earns his slot:

Hostile grinding for resources, loot, and faction reputation, where his piercing and accuracy speed up each kill.

Armada runs against the environment, where the captain crit bonus and the bridge piercing buff both apply.

Mission combat against tough mission hostiles, since the officer ability counts mission hostiles as valid targets.

He is not the officer to bring into player-versus-player station or fleet battles. None of his bonuses apply to other players, so leave him home for PvP and bring him back out for farming. If you are deciding where to spend limited promotion materials, weigh how much of your play is PvE before you commit.

How to get Data and rank him up

Data is recruited and promoted with shards, the same as other epic officers. Check the current store and event rotations for where his shards are available, since STFC moves officer shards between recruitment crates, faction stores, and events over time.

Promotion costs run 100 shards to reach rank 1, another 100 for rank 2, 200 for rank 3, 300 for rank 4, and 800 for rank 5, for 1,500 shards in total from recruitment to max rank. At max rank he reaches Commander (rank 5) with a level cap of 30. Ranking him up also costs Federation Credits, Officer XP, and Science Badges, with the badge cost climbing to 1, then 2, then 4 across ranks 3 through 5.

Character traits

Data has three character traits that unlock in order: you finish one before the next opens. Each level costs Officer XP. The first trait is cheap, the second is mid-range, and the Android trait runs nine levels deep and gets steep at the top, ending at 107,000 XP for the final level.

Merkmal

Per-level Officer XP

Uncompromising (3 levels)

1,500 / 2,700 / 3,800

Tactical (4 levels)

7,650 / 6,000 / 7,000 / 8,850

Android (9 levels)

10,000 / 4,000 / 7,000 / 10,000 / 15,000 / 23,000 / 42,000 / 68,000 / 107,000

Plan the Android trait last, and only push its final levels when you have XP to spare, because those late levels cost more than the first two traits combined.

Synergies

Data carries a class synergy bonus of 4% for Command, 4% for Engineering, and 3% for Science. That bonus rewards building his crew around the classes the captain seat favors when you min-max a combat setup.

He also has a set of named synergy officers, all from the TNG crew, each adding a synergy percentage when crewed with him:

Geordi La Forge: 4%

Jean-Luc Picard: 4%

Wesley Crusher: 4%

William T. Beyond that, build the rest of the crew around your ship and the target you are farming.

Frequently asked questions

Is Data any good in STFC?

Yes, for player-versus-environment combat. His piercing, accuracy, and critical hit bonuses make hostile, armada, and mission grinding faster. He does nothing in player battles, so his value depends on how much farming you do.

Where do you get Data shards?

Through recruitment and event rotations. Officer shard sources change often in STFC, so check the current store and event availability rather than relying on a fixed source.

What ship is Data best on?

Any combat ship you use to grind hostiles or run armadas. Put him in the captain seat for the crit bonus, or on the bridge for the piercing and accuracy buff, and match the rest of the crew to the ship.

Is Data worth ranking up?

His officer ability scales hard with rank, from 60% at rank 1 to 300% at rank 5, so if you farm a lot, the promotion path pays off. If you rarely fight hostiles, spend your shards elsewhere first.

Bottom line on Data

Data is a clean, focused PvE officer. Bring him when you want to clear hostiles, armadas, and mission combat faster, and pair him with the TNG crew to stack synergy. If your game time is mostly farming and grinding, he is an easy officer to invest in.

[89
294,293,292,121,115,117,207
post-8756","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-officers","tag-character-trait-android","tag-character-trait-tactical","tag-character-trait-uncompromising","tag-epic-officers","tag-federation-faction-officers","tag-science-class-officers","tag-tng-crew
["GET
