She lands early, costs almost nothing to recruit, and slots straight into the hostile-hunting routine that drives most daily progress in the first few weeks of the game.

Both of her abilities only fire against Hostiles. That keeps her useful for grinding zone enemies, mission targets, and daily kill counts. It also means she sits out of PvP, armadas with player-fleet rules, and most boss fights. Worth knowing before you build around her.

Star Trek background

Lucia Gonzales does not come from any of the live-action Star Trek shows or films. She debuted in IDW Publishing’s Starfleet Akademie comic series, set in the Kelvin timeline that began with the 2009 J.J. Abrams reboot. In that continuity she is a human cadet born in Barcelona in 2240, training at Starfleet Academy alongside the early Kirk-era crews.

The comics paint her as the easygoing, diplomatic core of a small Academy clique that pulls together students with very different temperaments. She gets on with the cold Vulcan T'Laan and the hot-headed Andorian Shev Akria, which is the angle Star Trek Fleet Command leans on for her flavor text.

Since she has no on-screen appearances, expect the in-game card art and biography to do most of the work if you want to learn who she is.

Role in STFC

In gameplay terms Gonzales is part of the original Starfleet Academy crew, six Uncommon officers who share a “good against hostiles” identity: Gaila, Shev Akria, Vel K’Bentayr, Lucia Gonzales, T’Laan, and Grace Chen. The group exists to give new Federation players a working hostile-killing crew before deeper recruit pools open up.

Her own niche inside that group is critical hits. As captain, she helps your hits land critically against Hostiles. As an officer on the bridge, she pushes the damage of those crits higher. Stack the two seats and you can chip a noticeable amount of bonus damage onto a fleet that is otherwise made of starting-issue ships.

The catch is the same as the catch for the rest of this crew: nothing she does applies outside the Hostile target type. Other players, station defenders, armada bosses, and a lot of event targets all sit outside her scope.

Captain ability and officer ability

Her captain seat ability is called Solution Finder. Against a Hostile target, it adds a flat boost to the chance of dealing a Critical Hit. The Rank 1 captain value is 8%, current as of the latest game Daten; higher ranks change the kit in ways that the in-game stat list does not present cleanly, so the practical move is to treat the 8% as the baseline number you can plan against.

Her officer ability is Problem Solver. When she sits on the bridge of any captain’s ship, she increases the damage of Critical Hits against Hostiles. Unlike the captain effect, the per-rank progression here is clean and confirmed by more than one source, so a small table helps.

Current as of the latest game data.

Rang

Critical Hit damage bonus vs. Hostiles

1

5%

2

10%

3

15%

4

20%

5

30%

Put together, the captain seat turns more hits into crits and the bridge seat makes those crits bite harder. The numbers are not large at lower ranks, but in the early game where every percentage point matters they nudge clear timers down.

Where she shines

The cleanest use case is daily hostile farming in early Federation space. Park her in the captain seat of an Explorer that already wants to fight hostiles, fill the rest of the bridge with the other Academy officers, and grind your way through the kill-X-hostiles dailies without much fuss.

The second case is as bridge-only crit support for a captain who already cares about Hostile crits. If you have an officer whose captain ability does something more interesting against hostiles, like raising hit chance or stacking another damage type, Gonzales can sit on the bridge and feed extra crit damage into that build.

The third case is much later: if you ever assemble a crit-chance build with a high-impact crit-damage captain, her bridge contribution can join the pile. It is rarely the optimal slot at that point, but it is a real one.

How to get her

Gonzales is recruited with shards, not built outright. Scopely’s help center lists eleven Missionen that drop her shards: Arbitration, Crashlander, Detainment, Diamonds in the Rough, Know Your Enemy, Political Prisoner, Show of Force, Silence Bought, The Warp Trail Less Traveled, Unhealthy Competition, and Valley. Mission shards are an evergreen source. They sit in your log until you complete the run, so the supply does not dry up the way event rewards do.

She also appears in the Premium Officer Chest, Standard Officer Chest, Crucible of War Officer Chest, and the Gemeinsame Wrath Recruit Chest. Drop rates for those pools are not published, so do not chase a chest path on the assumption of a fixed pull rate. Check the current store and event rotations before spending on a chest aimed at her.

Synergies

Read Gonzales as a Hostile-only crit officer and the synergy picture clicks into place. Her captain seat pairs with bridge officers who add to Hostile crit damage. Her bridge seat pairs with captains who push Hostile crit chance, since the two effects compound.

Inside her own Academy crew, the natural bench is whichever two of the other five officers fit the ship type you are flying. The Academy six all share the “vs. Hostiles” framing, so any combination keeps the crit-on-hostiles theme alive.

The class-synergy bonus tied to her captain seat is small, which makes the captain choice mostly about whose ability you want to fire. The bigger synergy decision is the matchup with your ship, not the matchup with other officers’ classes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lucia Gonzales worth using in STFC?

For early hostile grinding, yes. She is one of the first Federation officers most players have access to, and her two abilities both push crit numbers against Hostiles in a way that helps clear daily kill counts. Once you have stronger crit-focused officers, she stays useful as a bridge filler on Hostile-focused fleets but stops earning the captain seat.

Where do you get Lucia Gonzales shards?

From the eleven missions listed above, and from the Premium, Standard, Crucible of War, and Common Wrath chest pools. Mission shards are the reliable path. Chests are a bonus when you happen to open one.

What ship is Lucia Gonzales best on?

Any Federation Explorer that wants to fight Hostiles in the early-to-mid game. She is class-flexible because her abilities trigger on a target condition, not a ship type, but Explorers are usually the easiest fit for the rest of her Academy crew.

Should you spend Command Badges to rank Lucia up?

Be careful here. Her top rank costs a Command Badge, and Command Badges are scarce and far more useful on officers with stronger payoffs. The conservative play is to skip the badge spend on Gonzales unless you are already deep into the Academy crew and want every percentage point of her crit damage. The Rank 4 version still gives you 20% extra crit damage against Hostiles, which is close enough for most players.

Does Lucia work against players or armada bosses?

No. Both of her abilities are gated to the Hostile target type. Other-player ships, station defenders, and most armada bosses fall outside that label, so she effectively does nothing in those fights. Plan around that before slotting her in.

Bottom line

Lucia Gonzales is an entry-level Hostile hunter who earns her captain seat for as long as you are still clearing daily kill counts in Federation space, then slides to the bench. Recruit her from missions, take her to Rank 4 cheaply, and think twice before sinking a Command Badge into the final upgrade.

Lucia Gonzales at a glance Lucia Gonzales is an Uncommon Command officer in the Starfleet…

[89
116,115,138,120
post-6201","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-officers","tag-command-class-officers","tag-federation-faction-officers","tag-starfleet-academy-officer-group","tag-uncommon-officers
["GET
