Ships are assigned and upgraded through Ship Management, and every Drydock you own adds another slot for a deployed ship, so the count of docks you have built sets how many ships you can have out in the galaxy at once. This is why Drydocks are among the first buildings players think about when they want to run more than one ship at a time.

Upgrading a Drydock also improves how the ship inside it repairs. Two buffs scale with the dock’s level and apply only to the ship tied to that specific Drydock.

Buff

Active from level

Value range

Repair Speed Bonus

5

10% at level 5 up to 1,300% at level 80

Repair Cost Efficiency

2

3% at level 2 up to 1,025% at level 80

Repair Speed Bonus shortens the time a damaged ship spends in dock. It starts at 10% at level 5, reaches 100% by level 30, and climbs to 1,300% at level 80 on current game data. Repair Cost Efficiency lowers the resources each repair costs, moving from 3% at level 2 to 1,025% at level 80. Because both buffs affect only the ship in that dock, leveling the Drydock your main combat ship lives in pays off faster than spreading upgrades evenly across all eight.

Both buffs grow steadily up the track. Repair Speed Bonus passes 55% at level 20, 250% at level 50, and 600% at level 70 before its late jump to 1,300%. Repair Cost Efficiency reaches 60% by level 25, 175% at level 50, and 400% by level 70. The largest gains sit at the very top, where each level is also the most expensive to buy.

Upgrade costs and build times

The table below uses Drydock A as the representative example. The cumulative build time for a single dock is 50,831 days and 18 hours. Those are the unboosted figures, before any construction speedups you apply. The build-time curve is steep at the high end: a single level in the forties can take weeks, and the levels past 70 run into thousands of days each before speedups, so the top of the track is a long-term goal rather than a quick finish.

How Drydocks fit your station

Drydock A carries you through the opening of the game on its own. The Fleet Commander research ranks that unlock B through F come relatively early, so most players open their first several docks well before the Operations gates come into play. Drydock G and Drydock H arrive much later, at Operations level 30 and 35, by which point your roster is usually large enough to want the extra berths.

More docks mean more ships out at once, which matters as soon as you want a mining ship working while a combat ship is off fighting. Building out your Drydocks is one of the clearest ways to widen what your station can do at any given moment, since a ship with no dock cannot be deployed at all.

Because each Drydock’s repair buffs apply only to its own ship, a practical approach is to prioritize the docks holding the ships you fight or mine with most, rather than leveling every dock in lockstep. A ship that spends a lot of time taking damage gains far more from a high Repair Speed Bonus than one that rarely leaves the station, and the repair cost saving adds up over a long grinding session.

It helps to keep the two mechanics separate. Placing a new Drydock is what raises how many ships you can deploy; leveling a dock you already own raises only that dock’s repair buffs. When resources are tight, decide whether you need another active ship or a faster-repairing one before committing a large upgrade, since the same Parsteel and Tritanium cannot do both.

Are Drydocks worth upgrading?

Drydocks are core station infrastructure, not an optional building, so the real question is which ones to prioritize rather than whether to bother. Put resources into the docks tied to your active ships, where the repair speed and cost buffs earn their keep every time you send a ship into a fight. Docks holding ships you rarely use can wait. Since the output is identical across all eight, upgrade order is the only decision that matters.

Drydocks hold your ships in Star Trek Fleet Command.
