It raises the Raw Trellium-A, Trellium-D, and Omega Trellium those targets drop, adds critical damage against them, and gives your ship a defensive buff after it takes a critical hit. If Mirror Universe hostiles are part of your grind, it earns its slot.

What Tothian Mines does

The headline buff is loot. Against Mirror Universe hostiles, Tothian Mines increases the Raw Trellium-A, Trellium-D, and Omega Trellium you collect, starting at 50% when it unlocks and climbing to 500% at max tier and level. Two more buffs back that up: a critical-damage boost against the same targets, and a defensive buff that raises your Isolytic Defense for two rounds whenever your ship is hit by a critical hit.

Buff

Unlocks at tier

Unlock value

Max value

Increases Trellium loot from Mirror Universe hostiles

1

50%

500%

Isolytic Defense for 2 rounds when hit by a critical hit

1

5%

50%

Critical damage against Mirror Universe hostiles

2

2%

200%

In play, a maxed piece roughly sextuples the Trellium those hostiles hand over, while the critical-damage buff shortens each kill and the defensive buff softens the return fire. All three effects point at one activity, so the value you get depends entirely on how often you fight Mirror Universe hostiles.

How to get Tothian Mines

Tothian Mines runs on the Chaos Tech economy rather than the standard Forbidden Tech fragments. You open a Chaos Tech slot and unlock the piece with Chaos Tech Fusion Rods, which also let you pull Chaos Tech back off a ship; you earn them in the Continuum refinery or the store. The raw materials come from Chaos Tech Fragments, which you exchange into Chaos Tech materials in the Continuum refinery and pick up when you gather excess Chaos Tech shards.

Upgrading Tothian Mines

Tiers and levels do different jobs. Tiering up raises the level cap and switches on the later buff; the critical-damage effect stays dormant until tier 2. Leveling up scales the numbers inside each buff, all the way to the 500% loot and 200% critical-damage ceilings at level 60. Tier-ups use Chaos Tech Tier-Up Catalyst, and levels use Chaos Tech Reactor and Chaosmatter.

Ebene

Level cap

Kosten

1

5

Starting tier

7

35

9,200 Chaos Tech Tier-Up Catalyst

12

60

10,300 Chaos Tech Tier-Up Catalyst

Reaching tier 12 costs 92,900 Chaos Tech Tier-Up Catalyst in total. Leveling all the way from 2 to 60 costs 59,825 Chaos Tech Reactor and 139,900 Chaosmatter. You earn both by defeating Assimilated El-Aurian hostiles and exchanging their loot in the Continuum refinery, or from the store.

Best ships and uses for Tothian Mines

Put Tothian Mines on the ship you send against Mirror Universe hostiles. Every buff on it points at that content: more Trellium loot, more critical damage on those targets, and a defensive cushion for the trades of fire. It does nothing for mining, armadas, or PvP, so keep it on your Mirror Universe grinder rather than a general-purpose crew. If you are still building that rotation, our hostile guide covers target selection and crew setup.

Tothian Mines in Star Trek

Tothian Mines has no Star Trek screen canon. It is a game-original artifact, and its in-game story is a nod to the film Galaxy Quest: a magnetic minefield that nearly destroyed the NSEA Protector before its crew turned it into a weapon, gathering the mines behind their ship and detonating them to finish an enemy vessel. The game frames the field as a relic of some ancient war whose origin no one remembers, its geometry still sharp enough to tear through a battleship’s defenses and its magnetism useful for scooping up wreckage. Treat the lore as flavor rather than established Trek history.

Is Tothian Mines worth it?

Tothian Mines is worth chasing if Mirror Universe hostiles are a regular stop and Trellium is a resource you actually need. The 500% loot ceiling and 200% critical-damage buff only pay off on that specific content, so a dedicated farmer should take it toward max while a player who rarely touches those hostiles can skip it. As a Rare piece it is more reachable than an Epic, which makes it a sensible mid-priority pickup.

Tothian Mines is a Rare Chaos Tech in STFC that lifts Trellium loot and critical damage against Mirror Universe hostiles.
