Its opening buff raises damage against hostiles from 100% at unlock to 1,800% at maximum, and the tiers above it add hull health, critical hit chance, and critical damage on top. If your daily routine involves grinding hostiles, this piece belongs high on your list.

What Metreon Cascade Warhead does

Four buffs sit on this piece, and three of them fire only against hostiles. The damage buff is live from tier 1 and carries the piece: raw hostile damage is the number that decides whether a target dies in one round or three. The hull health buff arrives at tier 3 and is the odd one out, since it helps everywhere your ship goes rather than only in hostile fights. The two critical buffs unlock later and reward you for tiering the piece deep.

Buff

Unlocks at tier

Unlock value

Max value

Increases Damage against hostiles

1

100%

1,800%

Increases Hull Health

3

60%

2,100%

Increases Critical Hit chance against hostiles for the first 3 rounds

6

10%

40%

Increases Critical Damage against hostiles

8

15%

275%

Those values are current as of the latest game data, and each one scales with the item’s level between the two endpoints. The critical hit buff only covers the first three rounds of combat, which fits how hostile fights actually run: most of them are over quickly, so a front-loaded crit chance lands where it counts. Once the tier 8 critical damage buff is online, the two crit buffs compound, and a bigger share of your shots hit harder.

How to get Metreon Cascade Warhead

Forbidden Tech is unlocked through the Forbidden Tech refinery. As an Epic piece, Metreon Cascade Warhead needs Epic Forbidden Fragments, which the game hands out through Q’s Trials and special rewards. You will also need Forbidden Tech Fusion Rods, which unlock the Forbidden Tech slots on a ship and let you pull a piece back off later. Excess parts convert into Forbidden Tech Credit Pieces, which exchange for Forbidden Tech Credits in the refinery, so nothing you pick up past a full set goes to waste.

Upgrading Metreon Cascade Warhead

Two separate upgrade tracks run in parallel. Tiering up with Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalysts raises the level cap and switches on the buffs waiting at tiers 3, 6, and 8. Leveling up with Forbidden Tech Protomatter pushes the values you already have toward their maximums. Both are attempts rather than straight purchases: they consume Forbidden Tech Reactors, and Probability Devices improve the odds of a successful upgrade.

Ebene

Level cap

Kosten

1

5

Starting tier

7

35

32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 9,900 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst

12

60

32 Forbidden Tech Reactor, 11,500 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst

Getting all the way to tier 12 costs 352 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 161,550 Forbidden Tech Tier-Up Catalyst in total. Filling out levels 2 through 60 costs a further 1,856 Forbidden Tech Reactor and 1,305,350 Forbidden Tech Protomatter. Catalysts and Protomatter come from the Forbidden Tech refinery, Q’s Trials, and the store; Reactors come from Daily Goals and the store. Tier 3 and tier 6 are the milestones worth rushing, because each one hands you an entirely new buff instead of a larger version of an old one.

Best ships and uses for Metreon Cascade Warhead

Put this on whatever ship you grind hostiles with. The damage and critical buffs read “against hostiles,” so they contribute nothing in player combat, armadas, or mining, and the hull health buff is the only part that travels. That makes the piece a specialist rather than a general upgrade, which is fine, since hostile grinding is where most players spend most of their time. A big hostile damage number lets you reach up into level bands your ship would otherwise struggle with, and the hull health helps you survive the mistakes you make while testing that limit. Our hostile guide covers which targets are worth farming at each stage.

Metreon Cascade Warhead in Star Trek

The metreon cascade comes from Star Trek: Voyager and the episode “Jetrel.” The Haakonian scientist Ma’Bor Jetrel built it during the Haakonian Order’s war with the Talaxians, and it was used on Rinax, a moon of Talax, killing more than 300,000 people in a single strike. Talax surrendered within days. Neelix served in the Talaxian defense forces and lost his family in the attack, and the episode is largely about him meeting the man who designed the weapon and finding no clean way to hate him. Jetrel spent the rest of his life dying of the radiation he had unleashed and trying to reverse what he had done.

Is Metreon Cascade Warhead worth it?

For anyone who grinds hostiles, yes. The tier 1 damage buff is useful from the moment it unlocks, and the hull health buff at tier 3 makes the early investment pay off outside hostile combat too. Take it to tier 6 for the critical hit chance, then keep going if your Catalyst supply allows. If you mostly mine or run armadas, spend those fragments elsewhere.

Metreon Cascade Warhead is an Epic Forbidden Tech in Star Trek Fleet Command.
