Its Gas Mining Laser raises your gas mining rate by hundreds of percent, and it carries a large protected cargo hold to keep those hauls safe from raiders. You unlock the build once your Shipyard reaches level 68. If gas is your bottleneck in the mid-to-late game, the Newgrange earns its berth.

How to get the U.S.S. Newgrange

The Newgrange needs 320 blueprints, and the build unlocks once your Shipyard reaches level 68. The build cost is 900 Σ-Dilithium, 105,400 Σ-Tritanium, 2,800 6★ Common Refined Gas, and 710 6★ Common Refined Ore, with a build time of 39 days. The game data does not say where the blueprints come from, so plan around the building level and the resource cost rather than a fixed source. At 320 blueprints this is a longer collection than most early ships ask for, so confirm your current blueprint total before committing resources to the build.

U.S.S. Newgrange ability

The ship’s ability is the Gas Mining Laser. It increases your gas mining rate by 700% at ship level 1, rising to 1,785% at level 75. Like all ship abilities, it is always active, so every gas node you park on fills faster with nothing to trigger. This is what makes the Newgrange a gas hauler first and foremost: the higher its level, the wider the gap between it and a general-purpose miner working the same node. Gas feeds refining and a wide slice of mid-game research and building costs, so a faster gas rate turns directly into faster progress on the projects that gate your base. Park it on a high-yield gas node, crew it for mining speed, and it clears that node in a fraction of the time a combat ship would.

Stats and tiers

These are base values from the current game data; research, buffs and officers raise them in play.

Ebene

Warp (speed / range)

Impulse

Cargo (protected)

Shield HP

Hull HP

Health (displayed)

Stufe 1

6.7 / 1,280

100

126,000 (18,450)

3,319,205

4,685,936

4,002,570.5

Stufe 8

7.4 / 1,385

100

204,750 (42,385)

6,169,727

8,710,203

7,439,965

Tier 15

8.1 / 1,610

100

256,750 (56,068)

11,916,060

16,822,674

14,369,367

The pattern is what you would expect from a survey hull: warp range and cargo climb steadily as you tier the ship, and the protected slice of that cargo grows with it, so a maxed Newgrange both carries more gas and keeps more of it if it gets hit on the way home.

Weapons and firing pattern

Warm-up is the round a weapon first fires; cool-down is how many rounds pass between shots after that. Newgrange

Because the Newgrange is a survey miner, its bridge does not need weapon officers. Crew it for what a miner actually values: faster mining, more cargo, and a bigger protected hold so a raider cannot take your full haul. On a gas run, mining-speed and cargo-protection officers earn their seat far more than any combat buff would. In contested or open-space gas fields, the size of that protected hold decides how much you keep when someone jumps you mid-cycle, which is why cargo protection often beats raw mining speed once you are working nodes out in the open. For current picks, see our Officer Tier List; the best mining crews shift as new officers arrive.

The U.S.S. Newgrange in Star Trek

The Newgrange is a ship original to Star Trek Fleet Command, not a vessel from any Star Trek film or series, so there is no screen history to draw on. In the game’s own story it is a joint project between the Starfleet Science Academy and the Vulcan Ni’Var Science Institute, built around a refracting light-wave system that channels excess nacelle energy into a focused mining laser able to cut through hard rock. It takes its name from Newgrange, the ancient passage tomb in Ireland on Earth, and it is framed as the Federation’s step toward 24th-century mining technology.

Is the U.S.S. It does nothing in combat, so treat it as a pure economy ship. Chase it if gas refining gates your base or research; skip it if ore or crystal is your actual shortage.

The U.S.S.
