You unlock the build at Shipyard level 30. If you farm Transogen or run the Suliban loop, this is the miner you want. Outside that niche, it stays parked.

How to get the Serene Squall

Building the Serene Squall takes 200 blueprints and a Shipyard at level 30. Once you have both, the build cost is 1,600,000 Tritanium and 180,000 Dilithium, and the build runs 8 days and 2 hours. The ship data does not tie the blueprints to a single store or event, so treat blueprint collection as a steady grind rather than one purchase, and gather them alongside the Transogen content the ship is built for.

Serene Squall ability

The Serene Squall carries two always-on abilities, and both point at the same job. Transogen Haul raises the ship’s base mining speed for Epic Transogen, scaling from 1,053,000% at level 1 to 22,680,000% at level 90. Black Flag increases the quantity of Transogen Manipulators you loot from Suliban Stealth Cruisers, from 5,000% at level 1 up to 69,000% at max level. Together they make the ship a Transogen specialist: it pulls the resource out of the ground quickly and squeezes extra Manipulators out of the Suliban ships guarding it. Both abilities run automatically, so leveling the ship is what raises the numbers.

Serene Squall active ability

Two player-triggered abilities sit on top of the passives. Squall Automated Defenses raises the ship’s combat capability while it mines, wrapping it in a laser cage that punishes Suliban hostiles or players who attack you mid-node. Field Repairs instantly restores 25% of your hull health while the ship is undocked and out of combat. You activate each of these yourself, and their cooldowns shorten as the ship climbs tiers, so a higher-tier Squall can lean on them more often. In practice, Automated Defenses is what lets this miner sit in contested Suliban space instead of fleeing every time a raider shows up.

Stats and tiers

Base values from the current game data; research, buffs and officers raise them in play. A survey hull wants officers that raise mining speed and protect cargo for the farming runs, plus at least one combat-minded officer so Automated Defenses has teeth when a raider lands on your node. Because the best specific picks shift with the game’s meta and event officers, check our Officer Tier List for the current mining and Suliban-combat names, and expect those recommendations to change over time.

The Serene Squall in Star Trek

The Serene Squall comes from Strange New Worlds, where it fronts as a harmless vessel in distress but works as a pirate raider. Its captain, Angel, went undercover aboard the Enterprise, lured Captain Pike into an asteroid field, and trapped the starship in an energy net. Angel seized the Enterprise and shipped its crew to the Squall to be sold into slavery. Pike turned the tables by winning over the Squall’s unhappy crew and staging a mutiny, then used backdoor codes to disable his own captured ship. Angel escaped, the crew went to prison, and the Squall was impounded. The game leans on that pirate reputation for the ship’s mining-and-plunder identity.

Is the Serene Squall worth it?

For a Grade 3 Epic, the Serene Squall earns its keep if you actually mine Transogen and farm Suliban Stealth Cruisers. Nothing else in its band pulls Epic Transogen as fast or fights back as well while doing it, and the ship has no scrap level in the data, so it holds that job long after other G3 hulls retire. If Transogen and the Suliban loop are not part of your game, your resources go further elsewhere.

The Serene Squall is an Epic G3 Survey combat miner in STFC.
