It spawns in three hull types, Battleship, Explorer, and Interceptor, so the right ship to bring depends on which version you run into. It sits behind a warp 60 requirement and yields raw materials: Parsteel, Tritanium, and Dilithium. To take one down, match your hull to counter the variant in front of you. The Space Dragon is one of the game’s Hysperia-themed targets and has no Star Trek television counterpart, so treat it as a pure resource-and-XP fight.

How to beat the Space Dragon

Because the Space Dragon appears as three different hulls, you win by bringing the ship that counters whichever version you find. STFC combat runs on a simple triangle: Interceptors beat Schlachtschiffe, Battleships beat Explorers, and Explorers beat Interceptors. Vermessungsschiffe barely fight and have no place against this target.

Map that triangle onto the three Space Dragon variants:

Against the Schlachtschiff Space Dragon, bring an Abfangjäger.

Against the Entdecker Space Dragon, bring a Schlachtschiff.

Against the Abfangjäger Space Dragon, bring an Entdecker.

Check the target’s hull before you engage. Tap the Space Dragon in space and its ship class and level show up in the target panel, so you can pick the counter hull before you commit a ship to the fight. At level 40 the Space Dragon carries over five million total strength, so a mismatched hull can lose even with a solid crew behind it. Bringing the wrong class throws away the damage bonus the triangle gives you and hands that same bonus to the enemy.

Because all three variants sit at the same level 40 and warp 60, a mixed farming fleet works well here. Keep an Interceptor, a Battleship, and an Explorer parked in or near Hysperia, then send whichever one matches the spawn you find. That saves the travel time you would otherwise burn swapping ships between systems.

For crew, lead with a captain that raises weapon damage against hostiles, then fill the seats with Offiziere that add damage or mitigation. The strongest picks change as new officers enter the game, so check the current Officer Tier List and build around what you already own rather than chasing a fixed list. Whatever crew you settle on, expect it to shift with the meta over time.

Where to find the Space Dragon

The Space Dragon is a single-level target. Every version sits at level 40 and needs warp 60 to reach, which puts it in the Hysperia system. If you cannot warp that far yet, the Space Dragon stays out of range until you push your warp research and your ship’s tank a little higher.

Ebene

Warp

Systeme

40

60

Hysperia

Rewards and what it drops

The Space Dragon drops the three core raw materials that feed most construction and upgrades. Because the drops are gemeinsame materials rather than blueprints or rare loot, the Space Dragon rewards volume: the more runs you clear in a sitting, the more the Parsteel, Tritanium, and Dilithium stack up for your next round of upgrades.

Space Dragon stats

Stats vary by hull variant, so read the numbers below as a benchmark rather than an exact figure for every spawn. The Kinetic shot lands between 241,088 and 294,658 damage, well above either Energy shot, so the alternate rounds where it fires are the ones that hurt. On the rounds without a Kinetic shot you only take the two lighter Energy hits, which gives you a natural window to let mitigation recover. Both weapon groups crit 10% of the time for 1.8 times damage, so an unlucky Kinetic crit is the single biggest spike you can take in a fight. Bring enough hull and mitigation to absorb one bad round rather than counting on a fast kill.

Weapon type

Count

Damage per shot

Fires

Crit

Energie

2

120,544–147,329

Every round

10% (1.8x)

Kinetic

1

241,088–294,658

Every other round

10% (1.8x)

Is the Space Dragon worth grinding?

The Space Dragon is worth running if you need bulk Parsteel, Tritanium, and Dilithium and you already reach warp 60. It gives no rare or exclusive drops, so it works as a resource and ship-XP target rather than a priority farm. Match your hull to the variant you find, carry enough warp to get to Hysperia, and watch the Kinetic rounds so a bad crit does not end the run early.

Beat the Space Dragon in STFC, a level 40 Neutral hostile in Hysperia.
