It spawns as a stationary station and armada target, not a roaming ship, so you take it down with an armada group rather than solo. Clearing it drops Ungewöhnlich and Rare Exchange Vault Loot. The Eclipse are one of the game’s outlaw factions, so the vault is pure in-game content with no Star Trek canon behind it.

How to beat the Exchange Vault

STFC combat runs on a counter triangle: Interceptors beat Schlachtschiffe, Battleships beat Explorers, and Explorers beat Interceptors, while Survey ships barely fight. That triangle matters most against roaming ships that choose their own target. The Exchange Vault is different. It is a station and armada target that sits in place, so you clear it with an armada group instead of a single counter ship.

Everyone in the armada brings the strongest warship they have for the level. Battleships are the usual pick against a stationary target because they push high, steady weapon damage without needing to chase anything. For the crew, the principle is simple: a captain that boosts weapon damage against hostiles, backed by Offiziere that add damage or mitigation. Officer picks move with the meta, so check the Officer Tier List for current recommendations and build around whoever tops it for armada damage. Treat any fixed crew as a starting point, because the best picks shift with each update.

Where to find the Exchange Vault

The Exchange Vault clusters in the Eclipse-held Exchange systems at the low end and spreads into nearby space as the level climbs. Every level sits at warp 24, so a single warp range covers the whole spread.
