He has one job, and he does it loudly: he speeds up Transogen mining. Put him on the bridge of a ship pulling Transogen and the hold fills faster. Below decks, he picks up a second job as a weapon damage booster.

What he does not do is captain a crew. His captain ability is a placeholder. Equipping him in the captain seat provides no in-game benefit at all. That single quirk shapes how you build around him: he sits in an officer slot or below decks, never the chair.

The rest of this guide covers what he does well, where he came from in the show, how to chase his shards, and the trait costs you should know before you commit dust to him.

Star Trek background

Captain D’Chok is an officer in the Klingon Defense Force and captain of a D7-class battle cruiser. He first appeared in “The Broken Circle,” the season two premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Andrew Jackson plays him.

The episode introduces him at the dilithium mining world Cajitar IV. A rogue Klingon faction called the Broken Circle stages a false-flag attack on his ship using a counterfeit Federation starship. Lieutenant Spock takes the Enterprise into Klingon space to stop the plot and destroys the impostor before it can finish the job. D’Chok refuses to believe the Federation captain’s story until he can look the Vulcan in the eyes. Spock then offers to share bloodwine with the Klingons as a gesture of trust.

That moment is the seed for a much larger arc in Trek history. The rapport Spock builds with D’Chok in Strange New Worlds is the same rapport that, decades later, lets Captain Spock broker peace between the Federation and the Klingon Empire in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. STFC’s flavor text leans on that beat: it describes D’Chok and Spock as old friends and notes that the diplomatic captain is destined for a generalship.

Role in STFC

D’Chok is a mining utility officer with a combat upside. The reason to chase him is his officer ability, which boosts Transogen mining speed across every Transogen rarity. Transogen is the material that feeds Strange New Worlds research and SNW ship parts, so anyone invested in that progression track wants a faster gather rate.

His below decks ability is a separate ship weapon damage bonus that scales hard at higher ranks. That gives him a second life on combat ships when you do not need him on a mining run. He is not a captain, so he never anchors a crew composition; he plugs into whichever ship needs the boost that hour.

Captain ability and officer ability

His captain ability, Chain of Command, is intentionally blank. The in-game text reads, “This Officer does not have a Captain’s Maneuver. Equipping this Officer as the captain of a ship provides no benefit.” Treat the captain slot as off-limits when you build crews around him.

His officer ability, May Your Blood Scream, is the headline. While he sits in the bridge officer slot, the ship gathers Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic Transogen faster. If you are unlocking SNW research or building SNW ship parts, you spend a lot of time on Transogen nodes. Putting D’Chok in an officer slot on your mining ship cuts that grind time meaningfully at any rank, and the rank 5 number is large enough to feel.

Second, a below decks weapon damage filler. When you do not have a stronger weapon damage officer for a below decks slot, D’Chok at rank 5 sits at 3,000% extra ship weapon damage. That is plenty for general PvE work, faction hostile farming, and event combat where you just need raw output.

Third, swing usage across two ships. Because his two abilities live in two different slots, he can flex. Mine Transogen on one ship one hour, move him to a below decks slot on a combat ship the next. He is rarely your best option in either slot, but he is a useful Klingon-faction Epic who covers two bases at once.

How to get him

D’Chok’s shards drop through the Strange New Worlds story arc. The four SNW mission chains that pay out shards are Crossed Bat’leths Part 3, House of Hurak Part 3, Hurak’s Folly Part 3, and Transience Part 3. He also appears in event rewards and occasionally in the Event Store while Strange New Worlds events are running.

To recruit and then promote him through every rank costs 1,950 total shards. The per-rank cost climbs steeply: 130 to reach rank 1, 130 to rank 2, 260 to rank 3, 390 to rank 4, and 1,040 to reach rank 5. The jump from rank 4 to rank 5 is where most of the spend lives, so plan around whether you actually need rank 5 numbers or whether rank 3 or 4 is enough for your current use.

If you do not see him in the recruitment screen, check the current store and event rotations. SNW content cycles in waves.

Synergies

D’Chok belongs to the Strange New Worlds synergy group. The current roster includes SNW Christopher Pike, SNW Spock, SNW La’an Noonien-Singh, SNW Una Chin-Riley, SNW Nyota Uhura, SNW Erica Ortegas, SNW Hemmer, SNW M’Benga, SNW Nurse Chapel, SNW Sam Kirk, SNW James Kirk, SNW Pelia, S31 Georgiou, SNW Montgomery Scott, SNW T’Pring, SNW Black Ops M’Benga, and SNW Black Ops Chapel.

Because his captain ability is blank, the synergy bonuses you would normally pick up by stacking the captain seat with same-group officers are also blank for him. The class synergy line reads zero across Command, Engineering, and Science. There is no incentive to put SNW officers around him in the captain slot. The synergy group matters only if you are running a different SNW officer in the chair and want D’Chok in the supporting slot.

The practical takeaway for crew building: pair him with whatever captain best fits the job. For a Transogen mining run, that is whatever captain boosts your ship’s protected cargo or mining survivability. For below decks weapon damage, anyone you already use for hostile or PvE crews works fine.

Character traits

Character traits unlock in a fixed order. You must finish each tier before the next opens. D’Chok’s progression: Leader first, then Confident, then Passionate. Each costs XP per level, paid out of your officer XP pool.

Merkmal

Per-level XP costs

Leader (3 levels)

1,500 / 2,700 / 3,800

Confident (4 levels)

7,650 / 6,000 / 7,000 / 8,850

Passionate (9 levels)

10,000 / 4,000 / 7,000 / 10,000 / 15,000 / 23,000 / 42,000 / 68,000 / 107,000

Passionate is the long tail. The first three levels are cheap, but levels 7 through 9 are expensive enough that most players will stop short of maxing them unless D’Chok is in heavy rotation.

Frequently asked questions

Is SNW D’Chok any good?

He is a niche pick with a clear job. If you run Transogen mining for SNW research and ships, he speeds up that grind a lot. As a below decks weapon damage officer, he holds up on general combat ships. If you do not need either of those jobs, he is skippable.

Can SNW D’Chok be captain?

No. His captain ability has no effect. Putting him in the captain seat is the same as leaving the seat empty for purposes of the captain bonus. Use him in an officer slot or below decks.

Where do I get SNW D’Chok shards?

His shards drop from the four SNW mission chains: Crossed Bat’leths Part 3, House of Hurak Part 3, Hurak’s Folly Part 3, and Transience Part 3. He also shows up in SNW event rewards. Watch the Event Store too, since SNW content cycles back in.

What ship should I put SNW D’Chok on?

For mining, put him in an officer slot on whatever Transogen miner you fly. For combat, put him in a below decks slot on a ship where you want extra weapon damage and do not already have a stronger option there.

Is rank 5 worth chasing?

For Transogen mining, rank 5 takes the bonus from 5,000% at rank 4 up to 7,500%, which is a real jump. For weapon damage, rank 5 takes 2,100% up to 3,000%. Both are meaningful, but rank 5 also costs 1,040 shards on top of the 910 you already spent. If you are short on shards, rank 4 is a comfortable stopping point.

Bottom line

SNW D’Chok pays off if you actually use Transogen. He is a strong officer-slot pick for that grind and an acceptable below decks weapon damage filler. He is not a captain. Build around that and he is worth the shard spend; ignore the captain-slot rule and you will wonder why his crew never hits its numbers.

Complete SNW D’Chok officer guide for STFC: Transogen mining speed, below-decks weapon damage, where to get shards, and crew use cases.

[89

post-26464","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-officers
["GET
