It starts and finishes at warp 1, the game lists a recommended level of 1, and there is nothing to fight. The reward is 50 <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/star-trek-fleet-command.1337wiki.com\/de\/tritanium\/\"   title=\"Tritanium\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"16777\">Tritanium<\/a> and one 1 Minute Repair Speed Up, and completing it unlocks Upgrade Shipyard to Level 2. R&amp;D level 4 is one of the two requirements for the Shipyard, so this small mission opens up ship building.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Upgrade_R_D_Department_to_Level_4_objectives\"><\/span>Upgrade R&amp;D Department to Level 4 objectives<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The story line explains that the R&amp;D Department unlocks additional upgrades for the Shipyard and Ships. There is one objective and no choice split:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Upgrade R&amp;D Department to Level 4.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No system, hostile or donation is involved. Every level in this range also needs the <a href=\"https:\/\/star-trek-fleet-command.1337wiki.com\/de\/akademie\/\">Akademie<\/a> at the same level, so the two buildings move up together.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_level_4_matters\"><\/span>Why level 4 matters<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Die <a href=\"https:\/\/star-trek-fleet-command.1337wiki.com\/de\/werft\/\">Shipyard<\/a> can only be placed once Operations is at level 5 and the R&amp;D Department is at level 4. Level 4 pays 50 plus a repair speed up, level 5 pays 110 plus a repair speed up, and level 9 reaches 340 Tritanium with five 1 Minute Repair Speed Ups. The rewards stay small through this stretch, but they arrive every few minutes of build time.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tips\"><\/span>Tips<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Upgrade the Academy first. R&amp;D level 4 will not start until the Academy is at level 4 as well.<\/p>\n<p>Keep both building queues busy. The R&amp;D and Academy upgrades at this stage take minutes, so short sessions are enough to move several levels.<\/p>\n<p>Go straight to the Shipyard missions afterwards. They pay for upgrades you need anyway, and the Shipyard&#8217;s Ship Construction Speed bonus starts at level 2 with 3%.
