It has a recommended level of 2, needs warp 5 to start and to complete, and is offered in 24 early systems. The one objective is to eliminate 3 hostiles of level 3 or higher. The reward is 20 Recruit Tokens. With 24 pickup systems, one is likely to be close to your station or your usual hunting spot.

Fight close to level 3. Any level 3 or higher hostile counts, so there is no reason to take on stronger ones, and short fights keep repair time low.

Stack the kills with other objectives. Early missions often ask for hostile kills too, so three level 3 kills can move more than one mission forward. The 20 Recruit Tokens go toward officer recruitment.

Pair it with Cracking the Shell once you reach level 10. The two missions are offered across similar groups of small systems, so a combat ship can clear Hostile Takeover while a mining ship works on the Parsteel for the other.
